The clip below focuses on the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan in December of 1979.
The clip below is from a series titled "History Counts."
The clip below has an emphasis on the Soviet invsion and the Taliban.
Iranian Revolution--Cold War--Fundamentalism
Make sure to have your study terms (and the textbook) handy while viewing this BBC documentary. Pay particular attention to the role of the Cold War in the story of Iran.
In total the documentary is longish, but the events are important for world history.
The following clips focus on the crisis of leadership in the 1970s.
Mikhail Gorbachev and Change in the Soviet Union
Leonid Brezhnez had run the Communist Party in Russia for years. He and the "old guard" are significant here:
Solidarity, Pope John Paul II, and Crisis in Poland
Note here the relationship between Poland, the USSR, and the USA.
Dien Bien Phu--Gulf of Tonkin--Domino Theory
Make sure to have your "study terms" handout handy when viewing these clips.
This "short" is cheaply humorous in its interpretation of the "Domino Theory."
Vietnam War--the Cold War--My Lai Massacre
The veteran featured in the first and last (and in between) clip is from Jackson Mississippi, Vernado Simpson. To the best of my knowledge,he did, indeed, later kill himself.
Gulf of Tonkin Incident
Two brief clips regarding the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. The second is from The Fog of War documentary.
